Ben Roberts’ ‘Occupied Spaces’ documents the temporary inhabitance of 2011′s St. Paul’s Protests, the focus of the protests being to encourage discourse and raise awareness of social and economic inequalities.
Roberts came to this project through disbelief of the UK media claiming that only 10% of the protesters in St. Paul’s were currently living and sleeping in the camps. The photographs portray the activity of the community that was built and developed by the many residents confined to such a limited space.
These images are now a record in British history, uncovering the personal living quarters and experiences of the people involved.
Ben Robert’s will be giving a talk on his work at StudioSTRIKE, The Bread and Roses.
