Film media as a tool of repression and resistance in protest and policing:

Discussion on how the media of film (in the form of CCTV and press footage) is increasingly used by police as evidence for prosecuting protesters, problematizing issues of journalistic ethics and fostering a wider climate of criminalization of protests within the UK. Panellists will also discuss how film media can be used as a form of resistance and defence, with recent campaigns encouraging people to record police in everyday situations as well as in protests, to expose police abuses and offer alternative narratives to the mainstream media representations of the riots and student protests.
